Weld Log Terms Glossary

This glossary exists to make weld-log conversations more consistent across project engineers, shop teams, QA/QC reviewers, and client auditors.

Weld log

The running record of weld identity, procedure, traceability, and inspection status.

Weld map

The visual markup layer that shows where welds are located on a drawing.

WPS

The welding procedure specification used to control how the weld is made.

Heat number

The traceability number that ties a material item back to its mill or supplier record.

NDT

Non-destructive testing such as RT, UT, MT, PT, or VT.

Spool reference

The fabrication grouping used to organize pipe assemblies and related weld rows.
