Weld Log QA Traceability Checklist
A weld log is only as good as its traceability. Before a fabrication team sends data to QA or to the client, every row should prove identity, procedure, material, and inspection status without forcing the reviewer to chase separate spreadsheets.
Inspection-ready checklist
- Each weld has one unique weld number with no duplicate IDs across the active revision set.
- The weld row references the correct drawing number, revision, and spool or line grouping.
- Welder ID and WPS number are populated before the weld moves to final acceptance.
- Material heat numbers are tied to the same weld row, not buried in external notes.
- NDT method, date, and result status can be seen without opening a second document.
- Repairs, hold points, and exceptions are logged in a consistent remarks structure.
- Exports can be traced back to the live source record without manual cleanup.
Direct answer
If a weld log cannot prove which weld was made, under which procedure, with which material heat numbers, and with what inspection result, it is not fully traceable.
